Broadcast your value...not your resume
Recruiters earn a living by matching the right candidate with the right position. Their success depends on being accurate, but it also depends on the contacts they have, how they approach the hiring authority, the attitude they project, and the control exerted over the hiring process.
Once they have identified a good match, Recruiters use special methods to ensure that their candidate wins a good job offer. You can use the approach, techniques and attitude Recruiters employ, and you can be your own Recruiter.
In America, there are two ways to find a new job. One is to get a call from a Recruiter who will prepare you to impress his client when you go in for an interview. These calls come very infrequently. The other way is to use America’s antiquated Employment System. In this System, you work with classified ads, resumes, cover letters, human resources experts, career counselors, personnel representatives and receive little postcards that say, "No thanks, we don’t want you." You mail out hundreds of resumes, go on countless interviews, and sit waiting by the phone.
A respected career management professional, Greg Wood, in a letter to the LA Times said discouraged job seekers need to understand that the traditional system of landing a job- mass distribution of a resume, responding to posted jobs and waiting for the phone to ring- no longer works. His advice- Candidates need to change their mindset. Contact hiring managers directly, where you know your skill set and expertise would be of value - broadcast your value, not your resume. There Is A Better Way Recruiters understand that the System doesn’t work in tough economic times, but they’re not very vocal about it. Their business is to perform the functions the System handles so poorly. Recruiters have developed methods that work because they must. If Recruiters don’t win job offers for their candidates, Recruiters don’t eat. It’s as simple as that. But in tough times, even when there are openings, a recruiter’s fee may deter a firm from hiring a candidate The bad news is, you can’t afford to hire a Recruiter. Their fees are expensive and also Recruiters work for corporate clients. The good news is, you don’t really need a Recruiter. You need the Recruiter’s insider methods and profit-based attitude about how to match a worker (yourself) with an employer. Most Americans incorrectly assume there is no option but the System. They’re at its mercy. The more powerful methods of the Recruiter have remained quietly buried beneath this burden of ineffective tradition that hinders America’s battle with unemployment. Now it’s time to blow the lid off! The System doesn’t work and there is a better way. A way that’s been developed, tested and proven by people who earn a living from it. Recruiters Possess Knowledge You Need Recruiters possess a rare kind of knowledge: they know how to navigate the right person into a good job. It’s not that Recruiters are so smart, it’s that they spend all their time doing one thing: successfully finding people who hire; putting jobs and people together. This is a task most people have to do only a few times in their lives. Recruiters are very good at it because they do it day-in, day-out for a living. Working as a highly-paid "hired gun", recruiters learn a lot about job hunting, and about how and why companies hire people. In the best and worst of times, they have used this knowledge to help people win good job offers from good companies. For no extra charge, we will not only give you key contacts to call and e-mail, but what to say. You will learn how to craft the perfect e-mail or voice mail that will pique the interest of the hiring manager. We will share what works and gets a response. With our sputtering economy, companies have been laying people off at staggering rates - there are many reasons for this. One is that when the economy was booming, many companies got cocky and expanded when they should have cooled their heels. In a hurry to grow, they rushed to hire marginal workers who were not qualified to support the business in times both good and bad. Now, these companies must make up for losses by laying off good workers along with the unproductive ones. But as companies show workers out one door, they are using Recruiters to hire people for critical jobs through another door. Why? Because any company’s goal is to produce profit and because Recruiters prepare the right candidates to demonstrate in the interview they can add value to a company’s bottom line.
Rewriting A Resume
A Poll was conducted by a national newspaper from a Pool of Hiring executives that revealed over 60% of the resumes submitted were rejected, not because of the person’ qualifications, but how the resume read. Most candidates make many errors when writing their resume. They do not realize that brevity in a resume is essential; but most candidates do not know what to say and what to leave off. Critical mistakes prevent the most desirable candidate from that chance to even interview for the position. One important factor that is missing in almost all resumes is relevancy to the position a candidate is applying for. That is, Most Companies are interested in a candidate, not what they did in the past, but what they can do in the immediate future- it is imperative the Applicant needs to have in the resume “relevancy” to what the needs of the employer. Eliminate Obstacles Avoid all meddling intermediaries on your path to the manager who needs to hire you. In the traditional method, usually three people have a vested interest in the outcome of your job search: you, the manager who will hire you, and a Recruiter - if one is involved. What you should do is eliminate the third party- the recruiter. When there is no fee, the employer will be more apt to hire you. What hiring managers say when there is no fee (true e-mails sent?) Remember, the manager will actually help you win the job, if you can solve his problem. He stands to gain a lot. A Recruiter who has been retained to find you may hurt your chances because they will ask for 20-30% of your first year’s salary. No one else involved gains: not personnel departments, not resume writers, not career counselors, not job description writers, and not want-ad editors. All of these people get paid whether you win a job or not. They may even cause obstacles. Eliminate them. Take control of your job search with our proven system and get back in the work force!
